Opening Ceremony

According to the decision of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and Chinese Chemical Society, the International Symposium on Physical Chemistry: Education and Challenges, the Satellite Meeting of 40th IUPAC Congress (IUPAC2005) has been held in the world famous historical city, Xi'an, China, on August 9, 2005. The symposium is co-organized by Shaanxi Normal University and Xiamen University, and is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Shaanxi Normal University. The 160 participants from more than 20 countries take part in this conference.

Opening Ceremony was presided by Prof. Z. Q. Tian of the chairman of the academic committee, the director of State Key Laboratory for Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces, Xiamen University. On behalf of Shaanxi Normal University, the president, Prof. Y. Fang addressed to the meeting. Then, Prof. David StC Black of the secretary general of IUPAC, Prof. C. M. A. Brett of the vice president of Physical and Biophysical Chemistry Division of IUPAC, and Prof. P. Atkins of the president of Educational Committee of IUPAC addressed to the meeting, respectively. After the opening, all participants took group photos in front of library of Shaanxi normal University.

The symposium will last three days and consist of plenary lectures, invited lectures, oral and poster presentations.
