Accompanying Persons' Program

Accompanying Persons' Program

The accompanying persons' program include following activities.

(1) The symposium organizer will arrange accompanying persons to visit the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum and The Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the morning of Aug. 13, and the old and the new campus of Shaanxi Normal University in the afternoon of Aug. 13.

Charge: 15  (including Lunch).

(2) Accompanying persons who pay the registration fee will take part in the welcome reception, banquet and Excursion on the Aug. 14 (the special local Xi'an tour to visit the Banpo Museum, The Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, the Bronze Chariot Museum, the imperial garden of the Tang Dynasty-Huaqing Pool), which will be offered by the symposium organizer.

(3) Accompanying persons' program will be arranged in Aug. 15 including the city tour. The highlights include the No.1 Gate of our ancient capital-North Gate, the ancient City Wall of Ming Dynasty, the Forest of Stone Steles Museum, the Bell Tower and Drum Tower Square, and Kaiyuan Shopping Center. The local specialty Dumpling Dinner is served in the evening.

Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, was called Chang'an in ancient times. It is situated in the central part of Weihe Plain, with the Weihe River flowing in the north and the Qinling Range rising and falling in the south. The city is the political, economic, and cultural center of the northwest and has rich cultural heritages that witness the social changes at different historical stages. More than 4,000 historical sites and tombs have been excavated and over 120,000 historical relics unearthed. Among the famous tourist spots are the City Wall, the Forest of Stone Tablets, the Drum Tower, the Bell Tower, the Guangren Temple, the Ruins of E'pang Palace, and the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang.


The City Wall of Xi'an

The city wall of xi'an is an extension of the old Tang Dynasty structure. The city wall ,after its extension in Ming Dynasty,stands 12meters high, it is12-14 meters wide on the top , 15-18meters thick at the bottom and 13kilometers in length. The city wall was first built of earth ,rammed layer upon layer.The base layer was made of earth ,quicklime ,and glutinous rice extract ,tempered together.It made the wall strong and firm . Thus ,the Ming Dynasty city wall formed a complex and welll-organized system of defense. It is also the most complete city wall that has survived through China's long history. The city wall itself is a true display of ability and wisdom of the working people in ancient times. It privides invaluable and substantial material for study of the history ,military science, and architecture of the Ming Dynasty.


The Bell Tower

Standing at the 1, crossing of the East, West, South, and North avenues in the city proper, the Bell Tower is a three story wooden structure topped with dark green tiles. It is a grand ancient building with traditional Chinese architectural features.



The Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum                   The Greater Wild Goose Pagoda

Towering at the southern tip of Yanta Road outside Heping Gate, the brick pagoda, a reconstruction of the Ming Dynasty, has seven stories and is 64 meters high. A handrailed stairway inside spirals to the top. The pogada is a major historical relic under protection in China.

Located 1.5 kilometers east of the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, Pit 1 is 230 meters from east to west, 62 meters from south to north, and five meters deep. It is referred to as "the No.8 world's wonder" and the largest military museum in the world. The pit houses 6,000 life-size painted terracotta warriors and horses. The warriors, arranged in battle formation, wear helmets and armor and carry weapons. They are dignified, and each has a different manner.


Huaqing Pool


At the nouthern foot of Mount Lishan 30 kilometers east of Xi'an, Huaqing Pool is one of the well-known hotsprings in Shaanxi Province and a tourist attraction known in and outside of China. The pool is tucked away among green pines and cypresses and embellished with pavilions, towers, and kiosks, which are linked by twisting corridors and paths.


Shaanxi Provincial History Museum

Shaanxi History Museum is a sizable national museum with a wide rang of modern facilities .The entire building complex assumes the architectural features of Tang Dynasty. It covers an area of 70,000 square meters ,with a floor space of over 50,000 square meters .It houses the culture heritage of Shaanxi Province and shows the development of Chinese civilization .The state government invested 144 million yuan in establishment of Shaanxi History Museum. It was completed and open to public in June ,1991. The museum shows a great deal of elegance and originally in style .It assumes the architectural features of ancient Chinese palaces and courtyards. It houses 113,000historical and cultural artifacts unearthed in Shaanxi .Its exhibition halls cover an area of 1,100 square meters . The museum displays the historic artifacts excavated in province. The exhibition may be divided in to seven major sections :the Prehistoric Age, the Zhou, the Qin ,the Han ,the Wei , the Jin , the North, the South , the Sui ,the Tang ,the Song , the Yuan , the Ming ,and the Qing .All the exhibitions vividly and systematically depict the history of Shaanxi Province, ranging from 1,150,000 years ago to the year 1840.Back in history ,11 dynasty established their capitals in Shaanxi Province, with a duration of more than 1,000 years .This area was established as the national capital by more dynasties and for longer periods than any other place in China. In a way the ancient history of Shaanxi is microcosm of Chinese history.

Bronze Chariot Museum


Women Culture Museum of Shaanxi Normal University

Women Culture Museum is situated in Shaanxi Normal University, Xian,China. With an exhibition room of 1000m2 and over 1200 items of collected cultural treasures that are to be exhibited under five special topics, it is presently the sole all-around women museum in China.


Dumpling Dinner

When traveling in Xian, one pleasure you should not miss is the Dumpling Banquet. Dumpling or Jiaozi in Chinese is a traditional and still popular food in China. A banquet will feature nearly 20 varieties that are stuffed and cooked using a delicious assortment of vegetables, meats and seafood. These dumplings feature harmony between a variety of tastes and textures for an enjoyable eating experience.
